In my paintings my special interest is the contrast between different surfaces, which seem to be abstract and illusionistic painted details appearing in or on these surfaces. If you zoom into the fields of colour of realistic paintings, you very soon will get the impression of an abstract painting when the connection to recognizable shapes disappears. Because of this, which is well known anyway, each figurative painting has abstracts aspects too.
I try to illustrate this phenomenon in my paintings. On the one hand the contrast between a field of colour and figurative elements gives you a three-dimensional, illusionistic impression also for an abstract field of colour, on the other hand realistic elements in a picture become abstract, when there is no context.
